Travel Vaccines For Southeast Asia and South Asia
Wondering what vaccines or travel advice you need for Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Nepal, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, or Vietnam?

The recommended travel vaccines and medicines depend on many factors such as the traveler’s immunization history, itinerary, length of stay, current medical conditions, etc. There is no one-size-fits-all approach. At North Vancouver Travel Clinic, our consultation approach is to educate and inform you about all possible health cautions pertaining to your destination(s). We help you make informed decisions in regards to receiving each vaccine, travel medicine, or supplies based on your risk, travel activities and budget. This is the advantage of our clinic.
As part of our thorough consultation, we will ensure you and your loved ones are up to date, if necessary, with routine vaccinations such as measles/mumps/rubella (MMR), Tdap (e.g: tetanus shot ) , polio, influenza, etc. Below is a list of potential vaccinations for Southeast Asia and Central Asia:

Hepatitis A: The virus is transmitted through food and water.

Hepatitis B: The virus is mainly spread through contact with infected blood, semen, or other body fluids. Recommended for certain travelers or for all travelers going to areas with a high prevalence of the virus.

Typhoid: The bacteria is transmitted through food and water.

Rabies: Rabies is transmitted through the bite or scratch of an infected animal. The risk exists from dogs and other terrestrial animals in most areas of Asia and Southeast Asian countries. Pre-exposure vaccination against this fatal disease is recommended for certain travelers. Our nurse consultant will help you make an informed decision regarding rabies pre-exposure vaccination.
Japanese Encephalitis: Japanese encephalitis is a viral disease spread by mosquitoes that primarily affects parts of Asia and the Western Pacific. The virus mainly circulates between mosquitoes and birds or pigs, but it can infect humans, causing inflammation of the brain. While many infections are mild or without symptoms, severe cases can lead to neurological damage and are potentially fatal. Vaccination is highly recommended for travelers to endemic regions, especially if they plan to spend a lot of time outdoors or in rural areas.

Polio: The bacteria is typically transmitted through contaminated water or food and multiplies in the intestine. It can enter the nervous system and cause paralysis. All travelers entering an area in Asia or Southeast Asia where the poliovirus is present or where there is an outbreak should ensure they are immune. All adults who received polio vaccinations in childhood may also need a booster dose if traveling to a polio-risk area in Southeast Asia and Asia.

Cholera and ETEC E. coli: Transmitted through food and water. See the "traveler's diarrhea" section below.

Yellow fever: see below.

Other Health-related Concerns

Yellow Fever Risk and Vaccination Requirements: There is no risk of yellow fever in Asian and Southeast Asian countries. Travelers do not need a yellow fever vaccination certificate unless arriving from a yellow-fever risk area. The North Vancouver Travel Clinic expert will inform you whether you need the certificate if you are traveling from a yellow-fever risk country.

Malaria Risk and Prevention: The risk of malaria exists in parts of most Southeast Asian countries and India, including areas frequently visited by tourists. Our expert consultant will review your itinerary and, if necessary, recommend and prescribe appropriate and safe antimalarial preventative medication. You will also receive comprehensive mosquito avoidance tips during your consultation.

Traveler's Diarrhea: Up to 50% of travelers to a developing country will experience some form of diarrhea. This occurs as a result of ingesting food and water that contain a pathogen, leading to a localized infection of the intestine. At North Vancouver Travel Clinic, we will prescribe and provide you with an appropriate antibiotic to carry with you for self-treatment in case of a severe infection. Additionally, we will provide tips on food and water safety.

High Altitude Sickness: High altitude sickness can be a major issue for travelers arriving at altitudes of 8,000 feet or above in certain areas. Those planning to climb to Everest Base Camp in Nepal, Mount Fuji in Japan, or Mount Kinabalu in Malaysia will need proper consultation and preventative medications.

There are other diseases and health concerns that travelers should be aware of, such as Dengue, Zika, Chikungunya, pollution, and traveler’s diarrhea. Be sure to book an appointment with our experienced and certified travel specialist. Rest assured that we will work with you to cater our recommendations to your precise needs based on your travel itinerary, risk level, cost concerns, etc.
